This May, the course begins an exciting restoration aimed at bringing back many of the features that originally made Avocet so special. Led by original architect Jeff Brauer, the renovation will restore greens to their original size, refresh bunkering and course aesthetics, and revive classic design elements that longtime players still remember today. New TifEagle bermudagrass greens and updated course conditions will enhance playability while staying true to the layout’s original character and vision. Returning golfers will immediately recognize the creativity and variety that made Avocet a favorite for so many years, while new visitors will discover a course that feels refreshed, authentic, and ready for the next generation of golfers.

What’s New at Wild Wing — From Course Renovations to New Amenities
Not only is the Avocet Course receiving a major restoration, but Wild Wing as a whole is evolving into a more complete Myrtle Beach golf destination. Along with expanded greens, refreshed bunkering, and the return of signature design features like the iconic “Valley of Sin,” the property will also introduce a renovated pro shop, a new sports bar-style pub, golf simulators, upgraded practice facilities, and refreshed amenities throughout the clubhouse experience. The goal is to preserve everything golfers have always loved about Wild Wing while creating a more modern, welcoming atmosphere both on and off the course.

The par-4 9th hole, home to Wild Wing’s iconic “Valley of the Sin,” will showcase some of the most dramatic changes of the entire renovation. Long remembered as one of the course’s boldest and most unforgettable features, the massive green-side depression is being fully restored to recapture the strategy, visuals, and personality that originally made the hole so distinctive. Greens will be expanded back to their intended size, surrounding contours refined, and approach angles enhanced to bring risk-reward decision making back to the forefront. While the hole’s intimidating character and striking appearance will remain untouched, the renovation will reintroduce the creativity and shotmaking variety that made the 9th one of Myrtle Beach golf’s most talked-about par 4s.
